It went OK. 1.47.00, 30 seconds off my pb, which was at a faster-course race, so quite pleased, given a 4 week training hiatus due to Christmas and snow.
The thaw came just in time, and it was actually a nice sunny day.
I was trying for 7.45 min miles which would have given a 1.41.30 time. Managed that or better for 6 miles then a lack of endurance training got me and it started hurting, could keep HR down, had to slow considerably.
Got to 9 miles and felt better. Partly because it became clear to me that the big hill at 8 miles was not so bad, more undulating than one bil hill, so lots of downhills interspersed to recover a bit on. This was the best part of the race for me, finding things really hard going but getting through it.
Still not hurting myself enough in the last mile.
A very well run race, I will be signing up next year.
Chester Tri won best male team. Needless to say in proper BCTTT spirit none of the the winning four runners qualifying for the prize was me.
Not much of a race report, sorry!
