I have managed to blag a compact chainset and I have bought a rear mount for some bottles (and I have just savaged the bottle cages of the Spesh!).

So no going back it will be Ellie Morris (the Peugeot)

Well done. Another interesting blog as well. What is it you like about the steel frame? Comfort? Stiffness? or something intangible?

I think it's a number of factors.

The geometry of the Peugeot is far racier, which I find more comfortable (the spesh is slammed right down but still about 3 inches higher at the front, but that's what you get for buying a sportive bike, and to be honest it isn't uncomfortable just less comfortable). The ride is also buttery smooth, I've never ridden a carbon frame so cant compare but the HLE is just so much better at absorbing road buzz than the alloy frame, even with carbon forks and seat pillar.

Probably just as important is that as a kid I always wanted a Peugeot road bike, not sure why I just always loved the look of them, and as superficial as it is I just love looking at that bike.

I survived. Despite a destroyed rear wheel, a garmin fit (losing all the data up to Bristol - about 220 km worth - and mapping for a bit), losing over 6 hrs waiting in service stations, severn bridge being shut and a 25 mph block headwind. Didn't make it in the 24 hours, but will be back to do it again (in the summer this time though).

Will be a blog post to follow.

Cheers Jack.

The irony is I had a spare wheel and the offer of a support car at my disposal, but decided it would feel more of an adventure without. You pays your money and makes your choices.
