Pro AeroFuel Tri cage mount

This one, to be precise:

Image

Bought it for the Nighthawk hoping that it would solve my HIM hydration conundrum. It won't. Also equipped it with Elite bottle cages (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-custom-ra ... cage-2013/) which are meant to be a bit tighter than regular cages to prevent bottles from falling out. They didn't.

Ride No. 1.

Installed the mount, the cages, two water bottles and a spare tyre. It looked the sh*t. Until about 20km in, when the mount decided to just fall off. Presumably because it decided it could. And get run over by a couple of cars. Turns out the threads didn't manage to hold the two bottles in place and just gave in. Had to spend the rest of the ride with a bidon in my back pocket.

Ride No. 2.

Re-installed the mount using zip ties (and those screw points that hadn't broken. With just one bottle cage this time (moved the other one to the frame for the time being). About 20km in the bottle cage (brand new, had to buy an extra one after Ride 1) launched my bottle in the air. Not strictly the mount's fault, but I have a sneaky feeling te zip ties I had to use helped..

Ride No. 3 onwards.

Using set-up from Ride No. 2, but strapping the bottle behind the saddle with a strong velcro strap & exchanging once the front one is empty. In the meantime, waiting for my new Speedfil system to get delivered, which should hopefully be later this week / beginning of next.

Summary - doesn't work. Is evidently poorly designed / manufactured. Is not worth the dosh. Too bad.

Shit. Screws x 2 threaded and the whole thing came of at 30mph today.

Damaged my x lab carbon bottles cages that were attached as it's bounced and skidded down the road.

It's currently bashed up in the bin.

Avoid and yes I have changed my mind.

Piece of shit thing. Cheap for a bloody good reason. It's crap.

Should never have sold my x lab turbo wing. That thing was amazing

What else would you like Bopo - tested independently by two athletes with perfectly incompatible training routines, and still performed to the same poor standard. BCTTT gear review centre is better than many I've seen!

Well, contrary to advice given out by the BCTTT, I invested in one of these and had this thread pointed out to me by Bendy after I'd clicked the 'Pay Now' button. Never mind

Having ridden 47 miles with it attached to the bike, over numerous road surfaces including a 3/4 mile long stretch of what can only be loosely described as a 'road' (i.e. potholes interspersed with sections of smooth tarmac), I didn't have any issues whatsoever with mounts falling off or bottles ejecting themselves. 'Why?', I hear you cry. Here's how:

Loctite 243 Threadlock (or equivalent)
As bottle cage mounting bolts are a standard M5 thread, some slightly longer ones were used when attaching the bottle cage to the cage mount, again with a touch of threadlock

I've ordered some nice shiny A2 M5x16 bolts at the massive cost of 99p for ten, which will replace the standard M5x10 bolts supplied

Oh, and as I'm quite well endowed in the tool department, using a torque wrench to stop any bolt stretch helps too ;)

Now we just need to sit and wait for Kevy's second post after half of his saddle falls off...
