Broken carbon aero stuff

Postby tesseract » 04 Feb 2014 20:56

I've a project on the go to improve my aero bars  :? and I'm looking for any spare carbon sections people might have, preferably straight like a seat post, but a broken wheel might work?

I only need about 16cm...

I have bandaged my sides in preparation for the inevitable hacksaw-related hilarity.
I had fun once. It was awful.

I'll have a dig about in my bike bits box. I cut about 10cm off a Planet-X carbon fork a long while ago to fit the incredibly compact headset on my [shudder] Carrera road bike. It's the sort of stupid thing I may have kept, thinking "Oooh, a carbon tube... that'll be useful one day".

I'll let you know.

Cheers Bopo.

If it makes you feel better I keep all sorts of random bits, I've quite few sections of round carbon tubes from trimming extensions that I've kept. No idea what use they could ever be, but you never know!

As another example, I had an old aero helmet I destroyed, and for ages I kept the foamy inside bit, ie the bit that absorbs the impact, and that would have been great for making prototypes/ moulds for the risers I'm going to make, but of course at some point I had an attack of the sensibles and threw it out, thinking "how would I ever use that again" :(

Checked. Sorry, it's gone. Must've been in my last clear out, although I have to say the garage looks like an utter shit-tip again.

9 bikes in there and only 2 of them get used properly with a 'sometimes used' rating against 2 others.
