Tyre Pressures for cx/ offroad riding

Postby Worrying Will » 03 Nov 2013 20:57

After a few rides out on the cs bike riding at 60-70psi I am starting to think I might be suffering from traction issues.

In my head if i run a high PSI i will dig in and therefore get good grip.

So what do people think i should be running the at. The type of surface i ride on vary so from Grass.mud throough to compacted stone and tarmac.

Idea gratefully received,
Thinks to much about it all

Eat more pies.

Or go and steal IanM's food.

I would have thought the lower pressures would grip better, the tyre would flatten out on contact with the soft surface and that increased footprint would offer more traction.

Same goes for getting stuck in your car - lower the psi in the tyres and bobs your uncle.

I may be wrong though

My big fat MTB tyres run at something ridiculous like 30-40psi.

But you are always going to spin out. That's what makes it fun.

You need to run the tyres within spec (or not far out of it) though.

Experiment.
