My buddy steve ( I run with him every now and then but can't see him for long) represented Gb today at the IAU 50k world champs, only went and won it, not exactly sure of his time but I think it was about 2.50, for 31 miles! Animal. He has an amazing story too, this is him http://www.steveway.co.uk/?page_id=2

What a legend, been running about 5 years and was well overweight before that!

Was he an athlete before he put the weight on ?

He obviously has a natural innate ability.

No mate, was a 40 a day smoker that loved to binge drink at the weekends, used to run the local half marathon every year off no training and do around 1.25-1.30 after a night on the piss and a kebab. Got a charity place at London Mara, did a bit of training and an 3.05. Decided he might have a bit of a talent so ran LA marathon the year after, lost a load of weight nd trained hard, ran 2.35. Trained even harder for London the following year ran 2.19 and has run 2.19 the last 3 years, regularly runs 150 miles a week. Follow his blog, it's a good read
