Locksmith Didds

Postby didds » 25 Sep 2012 18:26

I am - much to Mrs Didds' chagrin - totally unblessed with any practical abilities around the house. I am pants with any sort of tool except maybe a sodding great chainsaw in a Didds v Dead Elm situation.

Today I set to to replace two front door locks (yale cylinder and a mortice lock). Also replace broken door handles on an internal door, and put some basic bolts on two doors.

It took me 6 hours. I'm not convinced the yale cylinder replacement is really working properly as the key will only turn one direction, and its generally a bit stiff. I had to get dangerous with a drill so shut the dogs away just in case.

I am sure all you capable types out there would have knocked it off inside a hour and certainly between tea breaks. But this is Didds World where changing a plug takes most of a morning. So well done me for not giving up and getting it done. 98% done anyway. just hope I do;t lock us out now!

Bloody hell Didds! You may as well ask me to dismantle and reassemble a nuclear rector as take on what you've done. That's an astonishing achievement. Be very proud.

I can't do any DIY

The WAT lagged the loft on her own, she built (with dove joints) three wooden 5ft square plant tubs after measuring up the right lengths of wood and taking herself off to champion timber to talk wood :?

! She's got out a power saw and set about lining our shed after insulating it and re felting bits of the roof, she fixed our guttering and has yesterday finished re sealed, with clear silicone sealant, the kitchen sink. Now she is talking about knocking down an internal wall !!!!! As long as I'm not here she can do what she likes. That's the way we roll.
I bought a huge solid oak sideboard. That's my bit Done.

What you have done there Didds is tantamount to gaining a PhD in my eyes. Superb effort and hearty bsck slaps all round

LOL, these explain two things to me: a) why craftsmen in this country are so expensive, and b) why handyman is such a popular profession among my compatriots moving to the UK ;-)

And seriously: well done didds, dabbling in locksmithery is no mean challenge!

My front door security type yale lock thingy only turns in one direction....must be a design fault eh? Seems to turn both ways when not in door frame tho....yeah design fault then.
