If I may get back on-topic

So we have GoPro and contour+. Both pretty pricey systems. Both are video cams that can take stills too.

Faith, you said you're not wanting to film your tour? Are you just looking for a rugged camera that is easy to access, or maybe you want something where you can video + take stills just for short sections? Not sure what you're after.

Let's put it another way... what kinds of images would you like to bring home from your bloody amazing journey (yes, I'm jealous!)... film the whole thing, film bits, just take pictures from the bike now and again... combination of all three?
I had fun once. It was awful.

You can do this with the Contour+... but only with some software after the event (i.e. stitch the two GPS tracks together).

But the Garmin sounds more fun :D

Beat me to the Garmin one. I might save for this and get it next year.

personally i would go for this http://replayxd.com/cameras/replay-xd1080-camera/ and intend to get one myself when finances allow. My main reason is that i don't want to look like a knob with a massive square on my head. Plus it has great reviews, is versitile andeasy to mount, full HD, takes stills etc. easy to use, rugged (close to indestructable or so i've heard) and some other reasons i can't remember which justified the cost to me at least.

It's very similar to the size of the contour. The actual physics of the lens is hard to get away from. You will still look like a knob.
