Re centring brake pads

Right chaps

I'm getting my mtb back out in prep for winter. I can do most thing mechanically but I'm having probs centring the pads. I've loosened the calipers and held the brake lever tight to get it to centre off but its made it worse.

Not really sure what to do next

Any help as I duct for cover...

Are the dual pivot or cantilever

Yeah they are shimano deore

I've cleaned the crud out from the pads as well.

Not really sure how to fix it - its prob really easy...

This is what Jay told me and it works.
The pad which is fixed turn it till it touched the disk. Then turn it back 0.5mm from the disk. The give it a quick spin to see if rubs
Then adjust the cable so the same happend a turn back. Check for rubbing,

This is what works one my CX disks. the key seems to be getting the fixed pad as close to the disk as possible. My are cable though so not to sure if it is diff if hydrauic.

Here is my top 3 tips

1) take it to a LBS

2) Part with a small amount of cash

3) pick up bike from said LBS safe in the knowledge your brakes work !

or learn yourself and save the money and buy a better bike....

Its part of the fun Ben - I like to understand things - especially when I go into the LBS and they try and rip me off cause its not actually my LBS if you get what I mean...

I managed to bleed the brakes and refill with fluid but just the centring of the pads is puzzling me - Will I'll have a look at that and see if I can get anything from it
