Chainrings...

Post your questions about bike maintenance, bike problems, kit issues, goggle issues – anything to do with the kit you have which isn’t quite going to plan and you’re looking for an answer why.

Or carry it.

I have a device called a map which allows me to ignore the issue completely. Or go around it, if you will.

No one is doing anything to convince me that this is a good idea...
I have a compact... I run an 11-28...
Blimey, I even have a triple (albeit a bit small for me) tucked away somewhere... I have plenty of walking shoes too, and am well practiced at hopping on and off the bike on steep inclines (though not THAT steep...)
Do these hills come with a chairlift? (Apologies for blatant post holiday reference...)

Sorry to embarrass you Clare... but to the uninformed, in a 40km TT CCS would destrominate most of us. And that is riding 'girly gears'.

Meanwhile, riding my manly 39/25 minimum gear there was a three minute difference between me and CCS up Sh*ttyf*cker Hill (Surrey) when I checked on Strava. In Clare's favour.

Having a gear you can actually get on on top of wins every time. Turning a hill into a leg-press session simply doesn't work.

I got £50 of Wiggle vouchers for my B'day. I'm seriously thinking of putting in the extra for a compact crank.

it might not be helpful to point out that the first one does go up along side a dry ski slope. There may well be a chairlift for that one

To be fair, I have pretty weak legs - and on the steep stuff (particularly your personal favourite, Bopo), I am in the very lowest gear, out of the saddle and struggling to get to the top. Perhaps I need some even lower gearing to be able to comfortably spin up the hills (or some stronger legs, which would probably be cheaper to procure).

The TT is not a compact ( ) - but does wear an 11-28 on the back (largely because this is what happened to be on the wheel anyway) - and so will not be venturing anywhere remotely near a hill!

Don't think this is a compact though Bopo
