Exactly what I've done - but to do that, you need tubes with removable valve cores and not all of them are. Contis apparently are (and that's what I got. With a valve key too).

With a pair of pliers you can extract the valve core sometimes... At least that's what I had to do during emergency tub replacement in Weymouth

I think most brands max out at 80mm I think.

20 minutes before I had to rack, so used my travel bike maintenance kit... As I loaded car for race discovered tub wasn't holding pressure. Couldn't get a suitable replacement at race and didn't have right valve extender for the one I had (vittorias with that funny removable valve they used to have) So butchered the stem out of it so I could put a second short valve on.
