Beauty has got a massive squeak/ grinding from the front mech when I put any form of power down. The chain seems to have stretched a lot could this course it.

On a secondary matter how much sideways movement should be on your wheel. I seem to e getting a lot of play at the moment and a grinding feel when you spin it.

Is the chain touching the front mech ? the mech may be slightly bent and if the 53/39 is slightly bent as well it may just catching during some of its rotation.

As for the front wheel, as the bearings wear out a small amount of play becomes apparent, if you get grit in the housing the wear increases and noise becomes apparent. Some play is tolerable but when the play is visible and you look like you are riding a jelly maybe get the bearings changed.

And get a chain checker to confirm your chains life

Pop the wheel out and spin it in your fingers; you should feel any play or grinding. If it's grinding then simply pop in some new bearings as water may've penetrated the seal. Common size and available on a well known interweb auction site for not too much money at all

Squeaking from the front mech; have you lubricated everything that moves including the pedal spindles? If they're dry then that can be a common cause of squeaking, or there could possibly be a mouse in your shoe?
