Chain Jumping

Postby AndyC » 23 Jun 2014 13:26

Okay, not sure what to do.

My chain is jumping no matter what chain ring it is between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3. Any reason for this to be happening?

Have you properly cleaned the bike?

If not then I'd recommend giving it a good clean first. Is it a new chain to cassette - if so then the cassette wear doesnt match the chain so the chain in effect jumps.

Have you indexed the gears with the barrell adjusters? If not then I would try and adjust them with that?

When was the last time it was serviced - maybe the cable needs retensioned?

I suspect the chain/ cassette is the issue.

Bike was serviced at MtB in March (It is the speed concept). Got a new chain and a cassette then. I have been cleaning the bike virtually after ever ride.

If you don't feel the need to buy a new bike, check the wheel is aligned, some dropouts have small adjuster bolts/nuts that might be misaligned causing a chain jump, but only 300 miles, may suggest it isn't broken in yet. ;)

its just the cable....adjust the barrel on the rear derailleur (that the cable goes through)...put it on the small ring (hardest gear) on the cassette and turn it 1/4 turn then click up...if it moves 1 click again.all the way up.....if it doesnt another 1/4 turn on the barrel adjuster.....dont touch the screws (thats the mistake many people make)...i bet less than one turn will have it stop jumping (its actually hunting....not jumping)
1/4 turn on the barrell and 1 click on the gears at a time and be patient....it will be reet!
