New Forest Sportive - October 5th/6th

Postby Bopomofo » 27 Aug 2013 10:56

Clearly the therapy has worked and I have forgotten enough of the horror of my last Sportive to want to attempt another one.

New Forest Sportive,October 5/6 - Distances are 41, 70 and 101 miles. Obviously I'm stupid enough to only be able to read one of the numbers on that list...

I'm up for a Sunday 6th assault on the 'Epic' 101 mile course - a distance I know I can easily achieve.

1400m of ascent on the Epic course is a bit confusing... the profile looks a lot flatter than Magnifitwat (wibbling up to 100m maximum rather than nearly 300m) and GC recorded 2000m of ascent for that. Or at least for the bit I did.

Yes, it's just a big bike ride for £30. But it will have a lot of cake and the prospect of being abused by Kevy at one of the aid stations. You might even get to argue with one of the Nimby locals who get the concepts of 'National Park' and 'private garden' confused. Anybody else fancy it? It'll give your legs something to do on one of the weekends that you aren't running a HM for andyb's Winter challenge. 8-)
I had fun once. It was awful.

I shall ensure anyone who enters will have their own 'personal' message left for them on their timing chip, and (more than likely) I'll be in one of the mobile abuse wagons shouting helpful words of encouragement to any fat bastards suitably attired in hibiscus Lycra

Don't forget your shovel so you can scrape up any great flower-clad lumps of lard you find collapsed at the roadside.

Planning to do this too, although most probably the middle distance. Should start looking into registering...

Come on, Artur! It's only 30 miles further to do the Epic. And you'll have to hope that somebody we know doesn't stand at the 70 miles turn point and flip the sign around as you approach...

Saturday or Sunday for you? You making a weekend of it?

Oh how I would love to do this. The magnifitwat was the highlight of my year. The only cloud on the horizon being shoulder op on 11th sept. I haven't really gone into the ramifications, but I suspect this may be ambitious.
Kqwerty you have to do the century, the last 30 miles will be the best.

My knee can hold up for about 40 miles without screaming abuse at me in its silent yet surprisingly effective way. Your "only 30 miles further" is 30 miles (~2hrs) of riding on a knee that's already been sore for the 30 miles (~2hrs) prior to that.

Really don't want to overcook it and throw all the physio etc. work in the bin by playing sportive ninja. :ninja: Plus, 70 miles will be the longest ride I've ever done anyway.

Haven't thought about Sat or Sun yet, but 6th Oct is my nameday so I may treat myself to a suffering-filled present on the day.

Ok here's a plan. Kick the arse out of the 70 miles leaving Bopo to hang on desperately for the last 30.

Wtf is a name day ?
