Sieraków Tri (yes, you heard me) - 31/05-01/06 2014

Long exchange on this with Ben on Farcebook, so pulling here too to gauge interest.

Basically there's an event in Poland which is fantastically run (first-hand account; a friend of mine did it this year and she's raving about it) and could be a great weekend outing for an able BCTTT delegation. Here's a video they put together (my friend is the girl with 1428 bib): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y0tgB4iUbk

Two distances: HIM and QIM (950m/45km/10.55km - so half a HIM)
Cost: if we register by October, PLN 250 (or GBP 50) for HIM, PLN 200 (or GBP 40) for QIM
Logistics: Fly to Poznan, rent a van (1hr drive to Sieraków, maybe less). I'd suggest flying Thursday night and coming back Sunday (so one day holiday)
Routes:
-swim: http://www.triathlonsierakow.pl/en/info ... ing-route;
- bike: http://www.triathlonsierakow.pl/en/info ... ling-route
- run: http://www.triathlonsierakow.pl/en/info ... ning-route
Accommodation: there's a few places in Sieraków where we could rent a hut in the middle of nowhere. This one sleeps 6 and costs 63 squid per night: http://www.arenda.sierakow.pl/domki-let ... ramaHeader
Weather: could be UK spring, could be piping hot (Polish summers are much hotter than British) - depending on whether Poland gets wet fronts from over the Atlantic or dry from over the continent

Anyone interested? I know Ben is, but this doesn't necessarily mean he'll go (nothing personal Ben ;-) ). Could look into it if more folks express interest; also happy to play guide & interpreter for any sightseeing/eating out/etc.

If you watched the whole video you'd notice she isn't. Gotcha. ;-)

might be interested in this, subject to my other half not considering a race in poland a disciplinary offense.

Two things of note. Any event started by a cannon that looks like it has seen action in the Crimea has to be worth considering and two does the guy who comes off and immediately appears to pause his watch not sum up triathletes. After all the chip may say ....... But the watch well that was a whole five seconds quicker   Brilliant.
I'd go with the alloys and lose a few pounds!

i'd bring the missus and vetty if it doesn't clash with school term or other family stuff that is usually on the end of may bank hol. vee is pretty good at crewing and supporting her da, despite being only 5.

Read a couple of reviews of this year's event and apparently there's a massive playground built up for the kids right in the middle of the stadium, so even if your little one gets bored of waiting, there's plenty of other things to do.

Also - just looking at race regulations, looks like it's a completely traffic-free event, the 22.5km loop is all on closed roads. No doubt result of having the local authority as one of the organisers.

The more I'm looking at this, the more it's shaping up to be my first stab at a middle distance event next year.. Amazing value and I could even convince my folks to drive over and support.

Any other takers? If we book by 30 Sept it's Ł50 for the long (Saturday) course and Ł40 for the short (Sunday) one.
