Haha. I think you perspective may have changed after the various long things you've been doing since. My memory is that it was lumpy and slow (ie not a PB course) and that I had difficulty setting into a rhythm. But that is was OK...

I am in France at the moment, and then in Somerset, but will be out on the course on the weekend of 29/30 Aug (and subsequent weekends up to the Gauntlet). There is a cycling cafe called The Velo House which is a good starting / meeting point in Tunbridge Wells.

I fear you're right. It's probably not that bad when dawdling at my long distance pace but a whole other ball game when trying to go fast. I just remember being very cold for the first lap or so and having hands that couldn't break or change gear properly :-)

It was also after a season of doing far too much and I was very feeling very tired. Only thing I expect to be faster at this time round is the swim.

I have just got back from holiday - I am a stone heavier than my weight at Henley in Sept 2013, and did very little training while I was away (2 runs). I had a chest infection and felt very run down. Anyway, I am feeling very depressed about it, and am wondering if it is sensible to do the Gauntlet. I will, of course, but I am going to be bloody disciplined in getting to a weight and fitness level in 6 weeks. Any suggestions?

Set yourself a realistic plan for improvement and commit to it. :)

Do you use training peaks? If so you can download relatively generic plans for not too much money. Having a session turn red on TP helps motivate me. Plus paying for stuffs helps me commit too.

The only thing is that you'll unlikely find a 6 week plan, so you have have to select a suitable block from the plan, which may or may not be the last 6 weeks...

You mean adopt a sensible and grown up approach with logic and common sense applied? Well I suppose I could give it a try. This is the BCTTT though.

Continue eating and drinking, don't train too much and just rock up (ideally having missed the race briefing and not being in the water quite on time). I can confirm this plan works for me, Bendy and Jody...

Disclaimer: this is a 'just finish' type plan for middle distance. You might have to find reputable sources for doing one quickly.

i'd go with, ride a bike a bit. do some running and maybe turn up to th race and see how it goes...that's how I plan on doing it. But I am on a 'get round (without breaking)' plan for this year
