The Polish Triple

Postby Bendy Ben » 12 Aug 2014 17:27

Long story cut short.

Next year I'm planning on doing something very stupid indeed.

I'm gonna race the Sieraków middle again on the Saturday

the next day "get around" the OD on the same course

Then the next day cycle home..... From the accomodation.... In a Sierakow ..... 1468 kms or there abouts.

The reason - cos I have too.

It's fraught with potential cock ups, with injury concerns and logistical issues but I firmly believe it can be done. I've managed to grab the attention of two friends who have expressed a wish to join me so I'm exploring it more seriously.

It's got to be a big fund raiser so corporate help will be sought.

Now is the time to speak up and offer me advice. I don't want to hear negative remarks ( there'll be many ) as it won't change my mind. If the logistics work out then it's getting done. It's as simple as that

I still want to see some sort of performance commitment, as it is emminently doable, given a suitable amount of time. i.e. a pleasant two week cycling touring holiday would have this sort of mileage in it. :D

Cycling to the Channel, swimming across then running home would attract some attention ;)

Dependent upon where my job is next year (contract end due Dec 2014) I could well be interested in joining you - If I am still employed by Alstom at the time, I will seek corporate sponsorship as they love a good charity. I won't know any more now until about December.

That's if you will have me

Looking at 6 days to return ( itinerary needs looking at)

Seriously though I need to look at all options regarding how we get back, who is coming, how we get bikes out there and then what we do with a bike box ( May have to drive over),Hotels, route, how we navigate ( might hire or try to blag on loan some garmin 1000's), do we need a car/ van on the route etc

I have to sit down with the other chaps and see if they ate serious and then start the ball rolling.

Any advice on any subject will be gratefully received.

1000 miles over six days gives you an average distance of 167 miles per day. That's eight hours solid cycling each day minimum. The question is whether you can all maintain that pace for six continuous days.

I would advise more than 6 days to return. Especially if you have doing 2 races beforehand. 10 days is more likely, just means if anything happens you will have a time to get things sorted.

My only problem is what if senario's

1. Mechanical problems
2. How you going to carry all that you need (inner tubes, tools, pumps, etc etc etc)
3. As you previously said what are you going to do with the bike boxes and all your race gear for the trip home?
4. Are you going to plan what accommodation you are staying at in advance

I do like the idea and sounds like an fantastic challenge.
