Finis Tempo Trainer

This is going to be a short review buy this is a great bit of kit for swimming. Goes in your swim hat and can be set to bleep at a constant rate, to help time your stroke rate, or to beep on intervals, great for pacing.

Been using mine for a while in both ways. Has helped improve my flow and rhythm and is also great for pacing feedback in real-time.

Swimming times are back to near their best, today I had it beeping to pace me for a 1500 TT. I used to think I swam at a consistent speed but having the beep to keep on target is great.

Best bit of swim kit I have ever purchased!

I've tried a couple.

One had buttons and an lcd display so was easy to set up

The other was more sealed in and programmed with an external wand or something.

They all failed with my natural inability to sync to any external rhythm. I can swim. Or I can keep time. I can't do both at once. Same with dancing.

I have the newer version with the LCD screen. Easy to use. If you can't keep time with the stroke rate mode you can still use it for pacing. Then you just need something to desk with people getting in the way and screwing all the timings!

Definitely a future addition to my swim gadget collection - once my fitness is fully back arm turnover is definitely something I'll need to work on. Good to hear it's doing the job.

Only thing that concerns me is that you need to have the discipline to stop when your technique is failing at the chosen tempo, rather than keep to the beat regardless of the fact that you are reinforcing poor technique.

So long as you observe this, then I can see that the last few lengths of a set (or until your technique fails) would be very beneficial hard work.

And for longer distance work I'm sure a tempo trainer would stop me nodding off.

If I swam. Which I haven't for about a year :o
