Thanks all...

Well beer food and self pity has enabled me to make a decision about my future in this sport we love.
I will return Faster Fitter Leaner Meaner and with Armbands..... :D

Challenge Barcelona is a great race and I will be back in 2014.......

Till then I will be mostly found swimming.....

I may be an Ironman but on this occasion I wasn't up to the Challenge.

There is one negative, that you didn't finish

But many positives, you are fitter, you have trained, you have new kit, the past is a country we can never visit, but just look at through pictures and memories. Onwards and upwards.

Try not to go over and over what went wrong, you will, but try to accept the misfortune as a one off and learning experience.

The future is bright.

And for those interested a nearly new Aquasphere Phantom size ML is now for sale, will be on eBay by Wednesday.
near perfect only down side is a repair to the stitching on the inside waist belt which does not effect the suit in any way.

Only worn for 2 miles...  and a tiny bit of training.

I've said it before, but there are so many things that can go wrong in Triathlon even more so when doing LD. That's what makes it so appealing, if it were easy the successes wouldn't feel so good.

Personally I would be using the rucksack and bike shirt as motivation for next year.

Now get stuck into beer and meat.

It's tough, I came close in Tenby this year.

Keep the shirt, stick it somewhere visible, in front of the turbo, to remind yourself of what you need to do. Rest up, replan, and then focus on you weaknesses, but not at the detriment of anything else. Then come back and kick it's ass

Chin up, it could be worse - I had my first DNF today, at a paltry half marathon!!

Severe cramp in my legs within the first km, so I had to stop and hobble back.

You'll be going through the same emotions as me, so I'm totally with you - Gutted, disappointed in myself, jealous of those who met the challenge, pissed off at months of training to fail on the day, mix in some shock, disbelief, and anger...

Beer and chilli for me

The quicker you pass through the five stages the better, based on the Kubler-Ross scale of emotion.
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance

The triathlete has a quick route from denial to acceptance, forget absolution.com, just go straight to Wiggle, click buy now and feel the tension ease.

Yes - retail therapy - the only way.
Ebay the Phantom, then wait a bit to get a suit with post season discount. How about a Huub? They seem to be very highly recommended.

Enjoy the beer and meat feast.

You did 1:39 at Wales in 2012. Which is, by all accounts, a really hard swim.
What was different for Barcelona?
Was it something on the course, or something in the training?
Either way, that will give you a focus on how to improve it next year.
A DNF's only a bad thing if you don't learn anything from it. (but at the time, I know, it feel really shitty :( )
Big hugs and smash it next year :-D
