Alternatively, I can't remember if you've said the ride is supported, but if there is a vehicle could you have the Spesh in it ready to switch to if you needed? Or do you know someone who could meet you at a predetermined point for a bike change?

Its going to be unsupported, so I have to make a choice for the whole route. I had thought about rear bottle mounts but I wasn't too sure if I could then use a saddle bag with it (the mount I was looking at fits onto the saddle rails).
Wrt the gearing, it already runs a 11-28 and I don't think my rear mech would take any more. To be honest 38/28 is probably enough for most of it, but it might be nice to have bail out gears
think I may just have both bikes road ready any go with what I feel on the day, will just be a case of swapping over a cassette and pedals.
