We'll bike away from you in PL anyway. ;-)

I'm using Tacx Satori which is one of their basic models and am very happy with it.

150 squid at Decathlon.

If you're going to use Trainer Road don't faff about with an Ergometer like the Flow, just get a basic turbo, like the Satori, which works well with TR. The Flow isn't ideal for use with Trainer Road.

Actually, what am I saying! I'll sell you my Flow for £250, then go and pick up a Satori for £150 ;)

I'd use trainer road if it was more sensibly priced.

I think ~£6 a month is pretty good value to be honest - it works really well with Sufferfest videos so you know what power you're supposed to be outputting when, and there are loads of other workouts plus extensive training plans. And it's even better value for someone who doesn't have a power meter, providing whatever turbo they have works consistently with it (not the Flow...)

Thought it was £10 per month.

I don't like videos.
I am not interested in the plans as I already have my own.
I have a power meter and a Turbo which shows power (well, an approximation of it)

I am interested in the team based stuff though.

I want to use the turbo as little as possible.

10 USD per month, or 99 USD per year.

All very good reasons to not bother with TR then, as you effectively have covered or have no interest in the key things they offer. Well, you would have if you had your PT wheel serviced, of course ;)

I'm not yet sold on this - I can't really see a huge benefit in it at the moment. I can already see what people are doing via Endo or Strava, so this becomes yet another 'social feed'. Although it's interesting to see more detailed power metrics of course. TR do say that "Teams is a cornerstone to a bunch of other stuff we want to build so this is just the beginning", so I'll be interested to see what does come of it.

Based on last year and having a couple of bikes I was happy to ride during the winter, I'd have agreed with you on this. But with a cycling focus for 2014 combined with lots of competing time pressure, I expect to be spending a lot more time on the turbo for more focussed workouts, at least during the winter. I'd rather be outside, but if I hit my goals next year it'll be worth it. Although one thing that does make me stop and think - the power numbers I hit on the road are higher than on the turbo. Apparently this is common, but it does make me wonder if not hitting the same heights on the trainer is detrimental.

I think that's well and truly derailed Ben's wanted post :D

Does your power go down if you wear a lot of clothes - e.g. bib tights over shorts, over shoes, gloves, base layers, mid layer etc.

I think that the heat of indoors slows you down. And I suspect that the workout isn't as good.

The best workout I have done this year was the two hill climbs. Noticed some benefits within a week or two.

Yep, that seems to be echoed elsewhere - eg http://alex-cycle.blogspot.co.uk/2009/0 ... ining.html. I need to up my fan count, clearly.
