We're helping him to NOT sell the bike.

Soon he'll be able to go back to his GAT and say "I tried to sell it Honey, honestly I did, but after 4pages on the forum still no one bought it... I guess we'll just have to keep it [mocksadface]"

I have a couple of those (or the equivalent).

Expensive, but great if you don't want to damage the decoration!

that looks an interesting idea. depends on if I can find somewhere to put that. the problem is that the spare room which is where both bike currently live needs to start being used as something other than a bike showroom. The shape/size doesn't lend itself to this arrangement at the moment, but I might be able to work it if I lose some furniture...

Jack - how do they secure to the ground? Will it work on carpet?

The current plan with the arrangement is to wall mount the one remaining bike in a corner (upright) so it is easy to get past. I will have to do some tweaking over the weekend...if I get killed for this I will blame you all!

Just an additional note - using the pole above, you can save even more space than in the pic, esp. if it's a bike you don't use often. Take the pedals off, loosen the stem bolts and turn the handlebars 90 degrees - that will allow you to put the pole much closer to a wall.

Simples.

:ugeek:

EDIT: obviously not as practical on a bike that you use several times a week..

They are basically like a tent pole - so sprung at the top, you basically twist to undo, then extend (telescopic style) to be slightly bigger than the space. Then push up hard to compress the spring. Then it holds itself in place. Yes, it will work well on carpet. You probably wouldn't want to pole dance round one, but they are plenty stable enough. Tandem is too heavy, but you can easily hang 3 bikes on them if you had a really high ceiling (they are really designed for show rooms). My down stairs ceilings are just about high enough for that (victorian house, with fancy wall paper, so no drilling allowed).

Obviously, you can just move the poles around, from room to room. Mine usually live upstairs. But if in a wet summer, then I can put them down stairs. The poles hardly get in the way at all. For example, you could put it behind the sofa, and hang the bike at the top. Very space efficient.

I think I have a photo on FB somewhere..

There is an ikea "hack" that does the same job far cheaper for a bit more effort... I'll see if I can find a link.

**EDIT: I'm pretty sure it's this one (http://www.ikeahackers.net/2008/02/stol ... -rack.html) but the pictures aren't loading for me so I don't know if the page is somehow defunct or my internet is just being screwy**
