Where: Peterborough
When: 9.10.2016
Organiser: great eastern run
Course details: flat route through the streets of Peterborough
Marshalling: loads
Facilities: everything
Technical: chip
Freebies: medal and technical t
So with a year dedicated to running I still sought the elusive sub1.30 time.
Training volume has been high but as ever, mostly slow and steady on trails. Weight under 72kg so ok on that front. Disastrous 10mile road race in September had left lots of doubts in my mind. Game plan, stick to 1.30 pacer like the proverbial on a blanket.
6.55 for first mile then 6.42 to 6.46 for next 5. Pacer doing a good job at consistency. Halfway bang on time, but wondering if I can keep it up........normally I crumble at about 10miles. Miles 6,7,8 were the fastest three of all, 6.36, 6.37 and 6.39. Really tough and doubted at the end of 9 if I could hold on. 6.44 for mile 10 and I knew I had some time in the bank and thought I could do it. No question at this point that it is all about the mental strength, not the physical. 6.44 for each of the last three. Home in 1.28.52.
Huge relief, thoroughly chuffed.
302nd on chip time (4200 starters) and I think 25th in ag out of 300ish
Last race of year for me and last in 50-54. Farewell you old bastards, hello you older bastards.
