Duston sprint 17.4.16

So first tri of the season, 8th consecutive outing at this event. Running has been going well, swimming has been non-existent since last event in September, apart from one 1000m swim a few days ago. Biking has been OK for volume but well down on intensity,
Its a pretty hilly course for a sprint so that could be a problem.
My main competition was someone I introduced to tri 2yrs ago at this event, we also both did it last year. Two victories for old smokey, but he then got the bug and did an IM in the autumn and doing two more this year.
I won't go into all the details but briefly:
Swim 9.42.......pb! How does that work!
Decent T1 55 secs.
Bike 38.49...disappointing but I suppose to be expected. Best on this course was 36.26 and that was on the back of some decent training.
Decent T2 46 secs.
Run 21.10 pretty good but I had hoped for faster. Pb on this course is 20.36 and I thought I might beat that.

Crossed the line not knowing how I had done, to get printout showing 1.11.20. Pb is 1.09.44 so not very happy. Even less happy to find my mate had done 1.06.26. Amazingly well done by him and there is no way I can bridge that gap even with decent bike training. I obviously won't be inviting him again!

63/278 overall
6/20 AG

On reflection I am not too disappointed. I have the base, I just need to do more intensity training. Slow and steady training for running has worked for me, but it hasn't for the bike. Need to plan some decent training for next few months and enter some more races.

Yeah, but you are giving away either 10 years or 30 years, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

14, he goes up a group this year and I go up next. I think triathlon should have age adjusted times

Well done - although I have to say, an excellent point in favour of Bendy's 'latent fitness' school of thought. The only sport you PBed in was the one you'd done next to no training on! ;-)

What were the distances, 400 / 20 / 5?

Yes super sprint and I think all actually pretty close to the right distances.

Yes Bendy is onto something, I will stop all cycling this year, then next year drop all running and then podium

I don't want to smash anyone's bubble, but that is a notorious downhill swim.

And there was only me counting, as they say in darts, a good scorer beats a good thrower 8-)*
