Live and learn.

I'm massively impressed that you got to the top of a climb that even the pros get grumpy about. This almost sounds like a BCTTT road trip is required.

Almost.
I had fun once. It was awful.

Can I be cheeky and ask how much it cost ?

I'm looking for a cycling only challenge next year and this sounds badass

The entry fee was just €90, flight a couple of hundred quid (to Toulouse) and then the thing with Velocamps (transfers, hotel, 1/2 board, mechanical support) was about £700.

In all honesty I am not convinced it was great value, but I wanted to not have the hassle + worry of sorting out all the transfers myself (especially on the day of the event - getting back from Hautacam to Pau was a massive hassle and I am glad someone was there to drive me back).

I am looking at doing La Marmotte next year; partly because it is a set date and course; and I think I'll do that under my own steam rather than as part of a tour company. Apparently the TdF route will be announced on 17th Oct so the Etape route for 2015 shortly after that.

I'd recommend it to anyone, but as long as you don't adopt as stupid an approach to training as I did.

Any RR that begins, and then I was swept up by the broom wagon at the top of tourmalet is a winner in my book.

Well done. Great effort and a great read :-)
