SoS' First step

On an even keel at the moment.
It’s taken a while to get here.
This year, personally speaking, has sucked balls so far.
I have been on a downward spiral since last June and found it very hard to recover.
Due to the magic of pharmaceuticals though, there is new hope and things are starting to improve.

At the moment, I’m still rehabbing the knee. Physio every day, including a variety of strength/stretching stuff. The physio’s good and understands where I’m coming from. More to the point - is able to work with me until I can get back to it properly.
Shoulder physio (different one) - she’s pretty much turned round and said my shoulder’s knackered and physio won’t make a difference. So in all likelihood I’m looking at an op in January ish.
As a result, it looks like all bets are off for 2014. Which is distressing to me. However, I don’t see the point of another year of training free misery if it can be avoided.
The only races I had booked were Outlaw Half and IMUK. The latter is a NO and the former is highly unlikely.
Iron Man is a long, long way away. Which will make it all the sweeter when I finally romp across the line.

So the ‘plan’, such as it is, at the moment is to take each day as it comes. The aim for me in the morning is to do my physio,go on the turbo and eat sensibly.
It’s going quite well.
And if there’s a bump, I don’t beat myself up about it, I move on to the new day.

I haven’t had sweets or chocolate for 70 days now, which has seriously helped to curb the binging.
I’ve also introduced a few simple rules.
Limit wheat, especially at tea time.
Cake once.
Eat salad.
Eat fruit and veg.
Drink black coffee once a day.
Drink Tea.

And that’s it for rules really.
Starting weight was 217, current weight is 210.8.
Not a drastic reduction, but a reduction nonetheless.

I’m gutted I can’t swim or run at the moment. I’m just glad I can turbo.
The turbo will become my friend again.

I have no idea what I’ll be doing next year. No idea if I’ll race or not. I’m going to take it one day at a time and see what happens.

I'll get to my 50th birthday without having done an ironman.

And it's quite a few years since I saw Jane Tomlinson doing one - and thought if she can, I will too.

Some five years after setting a five year target, I am about four years behind plan. Started off repeating year 1. Then had to drop back to year 0. A couple of times.

But I will be fitter and lighter (and possibly younger) when I hit 50 than I was when I hit 40.

Which is what really counts.

Have fun!

Excellent work - know how hard that is!!! Keep it up - and getting one small thing sorted out at the time is definitely the way to go.
Just enjoy the year without putting yourself under loads of pressure about races etc and get strong.

Cheers :-D

211.8 today
So up by .2 of a lb.
I know why. But it was a lovely pizza.
And I left a slice, which shows a little progression.

Have just got the maffetone endurance book, so am going to see how I go with that.
I haven't been using an HR monitor on the bike, but I'm going to start - HR range of 117 to 127.
Will also see how the HR goes on the dog walks.
May as well try it now whilst I can't do anything normal!

Kids are all, so it'll make things interesting this week.

Get that out and you'll be well on your way to under 200lbs.

Believe it or not, that would be a really, really bad idea at the moment.
I'm in the process of recalibrating my brain - and at this point, having given up all sweets and chocolate (which are like heroin to me), it's the main thing that allows me to keep going.
That being said, I haven't had cake once a week every week - it's just that I'm allowed it once, if I want it.
The same with beer - but I haven't had any beer at all since I started.

I read that as cake once a day. Once a week I reckon is probably fine. Excellent work on the beer too - it's full of sugar

No wonder you thought it was a bad idea!!
I'm slightly wheat intolerant anyway - one of the reasons I'm trying to limit it - so cake every day would do me in.
Even if it would be REALLY tasty!
