Time for a 2015 update.

The year is now mapped out. With the aim being sub 13 (again) at Ironman Germany in July.

Feb - Wokers HM
March - Reading HM & 2up 15ttt
April - Brighton Marathon
May - 100 TT & Fucking Seashbuckler.
June - N/A

So what is new / different this year in my approach.

Weight. Ok not so new or different, but I have a proven strategy which means I'm currently 93kg and want to be sub 85kg on race day. Which by my reckoning will be about 13kg lighter than I've raced before - very achievable.

Swim training - hoping to carry on with the improvements from last year. Now have an hour/week coached swim in addition to my Friday afternoon, pre pub swim. I think there are a few mins saving here, I've never really tried to improve my swim, but given my body shape, I should be better than I am.

Running - mainly about injury prevention. But getting in longer rubs earlier in the year means I should have a better base than in previous years. Mon - long (16km+ )slow run, Wed - track 6ish km intervals, Sat - Park run, Sun short brick run.

The only slight cloud on the horizon (again) is the bike. As it stands there is mo way i'l be able to use the Speed concept, its just too aggressive. So off to See mtb on Friday with fingers crossed.

Too aggressive because it was set up for shorter races last year, or because you're still struggling to ride it in the position it's set up in? Either way, hope it gets sorted. Might be worth looking at this, if it's a case of struggling to get in the position: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tom-Danielsons- ... 193403097X

I seriously hope it doesn't come to that, but yes did have similar thoughts. Although not entirely happy about the thought of my baby being ridden to within an inch of it's life.

I don't think core is the issue, it's more shoulder and neck related. Oh and perenium. It's just about tolerable for 60-90mins. Vaugly optimistic that it's resolvable.

I had been wondering if it was related to your hospital inflicted back issues of a few years ago.

How does your saddle differ from the one on your road bike (assuming that is comfortable).

I departed from my pure Italian thoroughbredness to put a specialised taupe road saddled on it - mainly because of the sit bone measurement and width choices.

I then picked up the (no longer made) TT version of the same in the same width (seems to have shorter nose). I can't recall any additional discomfort, even with a 2.75 hour ride on it (and I hardly do any miles on the TT as it isn't suitable for riding except without a car assisted ride).

I get less shoulder neck issues on the TT than on the road bike (and certainly less than when driving...).

There may well be some good exercises (I did get some off the physio for shoulder neck at one time).

No my back is fine. The problem is where my shoulder meets my neck. I would say last years collarbone op is the more likely culprit. I think the narrowness of the tribars isn't helping, they arent designed for 2nd row forwards and as a result exacerbate the pinching feeling in my neck.

As for saddles, I have no problem on the roadie, but as you rotate forward on the TT it puts more pressure on the perineum, think this is more solvable tbh, just a lot of trial and error.
