Creg has (relatively) good balance in the water. He must have to swim the way he does

You (Chappers) has (relatively) poor balance - you are fit enough to swim as fast as Creg. The wetsuit gives you better balance, so you get and advantage which Creg doesn't.

I have instructed Mrs C to hide all your running shoes until race day.

Pretty much spot on. I can get away with not swimming much and still chuck out half decent times. Wetsuit only really assists me with leg position in the water as they are pretty heavy. My pool to OW difference is pretty minimal. Maybe be a couple of minutes if that, but it feels easier.

Glad we've started the Creg banter already!!!

good jeezuz... 1h18m sea swim! fair play to you!!! well done! I hate sea swimming, very sensitive nose don't you know, so the salt water is agony.

@Jack.. yep, I still have loads to work on and have a few paid up sessions with RK that I haven't used yet, so planning on getting back into techique after xmas. It's just been a case of making the best of, after my ribs picked a fight with Helvellyn and lost ;-) the good thing is I didn't feel trashed after the swim on sunday HR wise, so bodes well :-)

as for the trainers.. err.. ahhh... err.. just one more? no? oh ok :-( my foot is slowly improving, swelling is going, still doesn't feel "right" so no running until it does and only then slow 30mins at a time just to keep the legs primed. Come race day I'll have to reign in my enthusiasm at running again or it'll blow up at mile 16 and I'll have to hobble to the line (though I will finish the mofo).. Creg has promised to give me a piggy back  so in summary, race plan is looking like: ride the pain train on the bike to knacker my legs so I can't run fast then wobble to the line  really getting excited now :-D

Monday 31st Oct

1hr foam roller ... aarrrrgghhh! (coach troy 1, chappers 0)

pm: swim (500 w/u, 300 kick, 10x100, 200 w/d) - 100s tailed off rather rapidly as prob tired from y'day IM swim.

weight.. hovering around 65kg @ 6.2% bf.. light=happy feet. I just have to be careful not to pie out during taper ... given that we're off to Krispy Kreme land, it's good job I hate donuts. shame I love their brew pub ale though :-(

I've had a look back on race bike stats (avg power/HR for 38, 50 and 115 milers) and have more of an idea of what to expect from sites like http://bikecalculator.com/veloUS.html .. though all stats are from hilly or undulating courses on a road bike so tough to compare I guess.

Dude - what are you doing? Reckon that's the most painful session of the training plan yet.

Tuesday 1st Nov

by the beard of Jody, the race is this month

lunch: swim 4x50, 4x100, 4x200, 100, 200, 300, 400, 300, 200, 100 .. arms felt fatigued from 3 consecutive days of long swims. first 100 of the pyramid at 1m46s, last 100 at 2mins

pm: turbo: planned Angels then Downward Spiral. Never normally a problem but got into first "downward spiral" and my legs just weren't in it, so decided to call it early at 1hr15m. Coach Troy probably beasted me more than I realised on the weekend

More importantly, just two training weekends left.

No time for your body to adapt to any new training stimulii, but hopefully time to heal and build, if you let it.

a very good point well made and taken :-)

this week is reducing hours but last big bike on Saturday. Coach Troy again (more to keep me entertained than anything else) but importantly I'm reducing HR by 5% over all efforts from last weekend to keep it all low Z2/Z3 - just about maintaining endurance as this is (apparently) the quickest to fall away.

I've tried not to go crazy with substituting bike for run but have had to compensate a little. If I don't run until the 20th that's a 3-4 week lay off, which isn't good. absolutely no runs longer than an hour, going to try a vvv gentle 30min run after the bike this weekend, but doing it in asics to keep me off my forefoot. after that it's taper with about 4 runs planned - 20, 30, 45mins.
